USE CASE · TEXTILES & APPAREL

A digital product passport for every garment.

One code on the care label opens a passport for that exact piece. It stays with the garment from the first sale, and passes to the next owner when ownership is on for your account.

THE PROBLEM

What gets in the way

  • Rules on the way

EU passport rules for textiles are being drafted now, and product data takes time to gather.

  • Resale without a record

Secondhand buyers can’t see where a piece came from.

  • Care that gets cut off

Care labels fade and get snipped, and the instructions go with them.

THREE STEPS

How it works

  1. A woven care label with washing symbols and a small square code.KAYA ATELIERFC-118 · SIZE MWOOL BLEND · DRY CLEANMADE IN PORTUGALLM-7F3K-92QXSPECIMEN

    01 · LABEL

    On the care label.

Each piece gets its own code, printed or woven, issued per batch.

  2. A phone showing the code verified and the garment’s passport, with sections for materials, origin and care.KAYA ATELIERField CoatWool blend · Olive · Size MCode verifiedPRODUCT PASSPORTMaterialsWool blendOriginPorto, PortugalCareDry clean, iron lowlumilios.com/verify

    02 · PASSPORT

    One scan, the whole story.

Materials, origin and care, in your words and your colours.

  3. Two phones side by side; the garment’s record moves from the first owner to the next.OWNER 01Handed overLM-7F3K-92QXlumilios.com/verifyOWNER 02Field CoatLM-7F3K-92QXlumilios.com/verifyField CoatLM-7F3K-92QX

    03 · NEXT OWNER

    Passed on, not lost.

With ownership on for your account, the owner hands it over when it’s sold on. You see the change.

REGULATION NOTE

Where the rules stand

ESPR, Regulation (EU) 2024/1781, brings digital product passports to textiles. The textile rules are expected to apply around 2028–2029 and aren’t final. Lumilios follows the draft textile profile and updates it as they settle.

FAQ

Asked before you asked.

01What is a digital product passport for textiles?

A record for each product that anyone can open from a code on it. For textiles it’s expected to cover things like materials, origin and care.

02When will it be required?

The textile rules are still being drafted under ESPR. Current timelines point to around 2028–2029; nothing is final yet.

03What goes into a Lumilios passport?

The fields of the draft textile profile, such as materials, origin and care, filled in per product or imported in bulk.

04Does it help with resale?

Yes. The code stays on the garment, so a secondhand buyer can scan it and the owner can hand the item over. You see each change of owner when ownership is on.

05Can the passport code be cloned?

A code can be photographed, but not reissued: each one is signed for one piece. When the same code turns up in two places, it’s flagged for review.

06Is a passport the same as an authenticity check?

No. The passport tells people about the product; the scan tells them the code is one you issued. One code does both.

The code goes on the label you already print.
